In Africa there is a small village exhibiting beautifully handpainted houses. Fractal patterns inspired by geometric shapes and symbols of local folklore .

This architecture is a unique form of communal collaboration, where all men and women in the community are tasked with contributing to the construction and finishing of any new house.

Mum’s loves Africa pattern is one of the first even Mum’s rug patterns, inspired by Kassena village paintings. Designed in Finland, handmade traditionally in India. One rug combines three continents.

Handmade in vertical looms, which makes rug tighter weave. Every carpet is one of its kind and made to order only. Also based on your own custom wish of the size. Smaller sizes only available at Mum’s retailers.

Outi Puro is a Finnish textile artist behind Mum’s. Outi’s designs invite you to slow down, look closer and enjoy the quiet beauty of handcrafted textiles.

Materials & Care

Handmade: 80 % wool + 20 % cotton. Wool from local sheep and cotton from nearby fields. You can read a little more about our materials and sourcing here: Behind the Pieces.

Technique: Handwoven flatweave.

Feel: Light. Easy. Breathable.

Care:

Vacuum regularly.
Wipe stains immediately with a wet wipe.
You may wash your rug but in cold or very mild temperatures.
Take outside to fresh air every now and then. Wool loves it!

Shipping

We ship from Finland. Delivery time is usually 2–6 business days in Finland and 4–10 business days within Europe. Rugs and larger items can take a little longer.

Orders containing made-to-order or pre-order items will be shipped once all products are available.

Choose delivery area

Customs and import taxes outside the EU may apply and are paid by the customer.

Returns

You can return unused items within 14 days of delivery. Products must be in original condition. Return shipping costs are paid by the customer, unless the item is faulty or damaged in transit. If something arrives broken, message us and we’ll make it right.
